Builth Bulletin 23

Welcome

As we break up for the summer holiday, we would like to thank all parents and carers for their support over the last school year and to wish pupils, staff, parents/carers and governors a safe and relaxing summer break.

General Announcements

Return to school

Staff will return to school on Friday 1st September for an INSET day.

All pupils will return to school on Monday 4th September. Pupils should make their way directly to the Sports Hall for assembly at 8.45am.

The first week of term will focus on Induction, Welsh Baccalaureate/Skills, UCAS and PSE activities.

Summer Fair

Thank you to everybody who supported our Summer Fair. We are delighted to report that we raised over £850.

Race for Life

On Monday 17th July we held our third whole school Race for Life. So far, over £2500 has been raised for Cancer Research UK and we are confident that this total will continue to rise as sponsor money flows in.

Sports Day

Having delayed Sports Day, we were all relieved to see the sun shine on Tuesday. Over 400 pupils took part and nine school records were broken. Congratulations to Paige Ballington who was awarded Victrix ludorum and to Sion Coyle who was awarded Victor ludorum. The overall winners of Sports Day 2017 were Ty Gwyrdd.

Staff Leaving

A number of staff are leaving us this week:

  • Miss Jones
  • Ms Thomson
  • Mr Thomas
  • Miss Smyth
  • Mr Preston
  • Mrs Ballard
  • Mrs Hughes
  • Mr Sollis
  • Mrs Vaughan
  • Ms Birch

We would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their hard work and to wish them well for the future.

The Beacons Project

The Beacons Project brought twenty A-level students from across Wales to experience and participate in the landscape and literature of the Hay Festival. It introduced young people to the strong link between the landscape and environment and art and literature, and encouraged them to make their own contribution.

The students’ work was featured on Countryfile on the 27th June and Year 12 students Sorrel, Caitlin and Sam have been invited back to the Hay Festival Winter Weekend on 25th /26th November.

Parent Pay

Please can we remind parents to ensure their ParentPay accounts are in credit before the end of term.

Pupil Success

Congratulations to our talented hammer thrower Kyle Davies who last weekend represented Wales in Dublin. Well done Kyle.
