Builth Bulletin 21

Welcome

As we return to school after the half-term break, pupils in years 10-13 are continuing to work hard for their GCSE, AS and A2 examinations.

General Announcements

Urdd Eisteddfod

Half term was very busy with pupils representing the school and Brycheiniog and Maesyfed in the Urdd Eisteddfod in Bridgend. Pupils participated in a range of competitions from cooking to choirs and they all performed at a very high level but unfortunately they did not win any prizes.

Congratulations to Brân Davies who won third prize in the jewellery making competition for pupils in years 7 -9 which took place earlier in the year.

The Urdd Eisteddfod is Europe’s largest youth festival, and is coming to the Royal Welsh Showground in 2018, hosted by Brycheiniog a Maesyfed. On Friday 2nd June the Senior Girls’ Choir, accompanied by Mrs Ennis, sang the “Cywydd Croeso” composed by John Meurig Edwards on the main stage in the pavilion. The hard work starts now!

Staff

We would like to welcome back Mrs K Davies to the Science department following her maternity leave. She also resumes her responsibility for the Skills Challenge Certificate (WBQ).

We would like to wish Miss R Jones a speedy recovery following her operation.

Mr I Jones has joined the Mathematics department, teaching the Welsh-medium classes in years 7-11.

Estyn

Estyn will return to school 4 – 6th July 2017 for their termly monitoring visit.

Pupil Success

Congratulations to Kyle Davies who continues to achieve sporting success. During half term Kyle competed in the YDL League in Yeovil. He came second in the hammer competition with a throw of 34.32m which was a very good result for a 15 year old competing against 17 year olds. He recently won first in the Brecon Senior League with a throw of 37.11m which was a personal best. Well done Kyle.

YFC

Well done to all of our pupils who have been competing in the YFC competitions leading up to the County Rallies.
