Pupils across the school are busy preparing for the Annual School Eisteddfod which will take place on Thursday 16th February. You will have the opportunity to join us on Wednesday March 1st for our Cawl a Chân concert where you will be able to see some of the best performances from the Eisteddfod.
Don’t forget that Friday 17th of February is an INSET day for staff and so pupils will have an extra day added to their half-term holiday. We all return to school on Monday 27th February.
World Cancer Day
A truly global event taking place every year on the 4th February, World Cancer Day unites the world’s population in the fight against cancer.
At Builth Wells High School, the fight against cancer is very important to students and staff alike.
On Monday 23rd January, we welcomed Maria Parker the local fundraising manager for Cancer Research UK to our school assembly.
Maria shared with us the important things that we can do to help protect our own health and also how the money raised by Cancer Research UK is used to fund vital research.
The 4th February was World Cancer Day when millions of people united in one incredible Act of Unity. Why not play your part by wearing a Unity Band®?
Unity Bands are available from the school office for a donation of £2 #ActOfUnity
Raising aspirations - Widening Participation
On Tuesday 24th January, we welcomed Jonathan Padley to school to provide information about Churchill College and the University of Cambridge.
Students in years 10 -12 were joined by their peers from Llandrindod and Gwernyfed High Schools for an informative and interesting session.
On Thursday 26th January, we welcomed Leanne Wood AM and Leader of Plaid Cymru to school. The purpose of the visit was to question young people about their views about politics, the voting system and how young people are represented in politics.
The students were interested to hear about the role of an Assembly Member and had the opportunity to ask some challenging questions.
Swansea Trip – Art and Textiles
On Friday the 13th of January, the Art and Textiles departments went on a visit to Swansea. We went to the marina, the beach and then into the city centre. Students and staff had a great day taking photos and gathering research and ideas, despite the very cold weather and snow along the journey. Students involved were Year 10, 11 and 12 and we really hope that this inspired the students and gave them an opportunity to find inspiration from a different source.
