As a bitter February wind blew around school, we all froze last Thursday lunchtime when the garlic bread in our pop-up student-run café Caffi Carpe Diem set off the fire alarm!
We are delighted to announce that under the national categorisation system, Builth Wells High School is now classed as 2C Amber. This is a significant improvement on the 2015 judgement of 4D Red and reflects the hard work of all staff and students.
Sixth Form Open Evening
On Thursday 9th February, we held our Sixth Form Open Evening. If you were not able to attend, please see Mr Powell for an information pack.
We are saying farewell to Miss Esyllt Morris this week who is leaving us to take up a new post at Ysgol Morgan Llwyd. We would like to thank her for her contribution to Builth Wells High School and to wish her every success in her new school. Pob lwc Miss Morris.
Powys Catering would like to remind parents, pupils and staff to keep their ParentPay accounts topped up in order to purchase items from the Bwyty.
On Wednesday 15th we travelled down to Swansea to play against Gowerton Comprehensive School in a Year 7 Football and a Year 8 Rugby fixture.
Year 7 Football - After a goalless 1st half, Gowerton edged out a 2 - 1 victory in a very even game in which a missed penalty was the difference.
Year 8 Rugby - After a fairly slow start and a strong defensive display, Builth started to gain control of what turned out to be an excellent game between two very strong sides. Midway through the 1st half, our forwards started to give us a platform and the elusive running of our outside backs started picking holes in the Gowerton defense scoring 3 of our 4 tries in the 1st half.
The Second half proved to be a tighter affair with both sides proving to be stubborn in defense. We scored our 4th try early on only to be pegged back by the relentless Gowerton attack which saw them break down our defense and score in the corner.
Year 7 Football
Gowerton 2 - 1 Builth
Goal scorer Ciaran Price
Year 8 Rugby
Gowerton 5 - 24 Builth
Try Scorers - Aled Davies, Alecs Williams, Adam Powell and Ryan Hughes
Conversions - Alecs Williams
