Judo

Well done to Lucy Jackson, a member of Irfon Judo Club who joined sensei (Coach) Richard Jones at Clyro Primary School last Thursday.

Clyro Primary School were so pleased to have Lucy with them to help Richard and it was great for the children, especially the girls. They were very impressed with the manner in which she conducted herself: she was tremendous with the children, very polite and mature in the staff room and had a great sense of humour! She was very passionate about the sport and was a great role model for the children, inspiring many of them.

Basketball

Congratulations to Kieron Heatlie who has been selected for the Under-14 Welsh Basketball team. This is a huge accomplishment and demonstrates enormous commitment as he has to travel down to Port Talbot every weekend to train plus he has to complete an extensive fitness regime during the week. Well done Kieron.

Music Success

Congratulations to the following pupils for their recent music success:

  • Eve Stewart Brown – passing her Grade 4 Piano exam with a merit
  • Carys Wheeler – passing her Grade 3 piano exam with a merit
  • Isabelle Frewin - passing her Grade 7 piano exam with a merit
  • Eleri Davies - passing her Grade 5 piano exam with a distinction
  • Ffion Wright –for passing her Grade 5 Violin exam

Congratulations to Elin Bolland who has worked with Jess and Mike at Malt Barn Recordings recording three of her compositions.

The first is 'Forevermore', which she wrote 18 months ago but has changed. The second is 'Doll' which is based on the character of Annabelle, an anorexic, in 'Twelve' (a TV series that she, her sister and friends filmed a pilot of this summer). The third is 'Mark's Song' which may also be used in the pilot. She wanted a more rock sound so asked Jess to sing it and to play bass.

Well done Elin.

'Diwrnod Shwmae Su'mae'

On Friday 13th students and staff joined the Welsh department at a Coffee Morning to celebrate 'Diwrnod Shwmae Su'mae' (which is actually on Sunday 15th October)

This was a great opportunity for Staff and Sixth formers to come together and celebrate the ability to speak Welsh while raising money for the Urdd Eisteddfod 2018 in the process.
