Here we are at the start of another school year and we welcome our new Year 7 pupils along with four new members of staff. Mrs Jones joins us as CPM for Science and Miss Rhys-Jones as CPM for Music. Mr Ayre joins the PE department and Miss Smyth the English Department.


General Announcements


Jeans for Genes

Next Friday, 23rd is Jeans for Genes Day. Pupils should wear school shirt, tie, jumper and jeans. It is not a non-school uniform day. We ask that pupils pay a donation of £1 which will help fund a range of initiatives that improve the quality of life of children affected by genetic diseases.


Controlled Assessment Evening

On Thursday 22nd in the Bwyty between 5 and 6pm there will be a presentation and opportunity to discuss controlled assessment tasks for pupils in Years 10 -13.


Sixth Form Progress Drop-in Evening

On Thursday 6th October between 4:30 and 5:30pm there will be an opportunity to drop in and meet Sixth Form subject teachers to discuss progress. No appointments required.


Year 7 Progress Drop-in Evening

On Thursday 13th October between 4:30 and 5:30pm there will be an opportunity to drop in and meet Year 7 form teachers, Curriculum and Progress Manager, ALN Co-ordinator and the Senior Leadership Team to discuss progress. No appointments required.


Pupil Success


Prize Giving Evening

On Thursday 15th we were delighted to welcome Kirsty Williams AM, Cabinet Secretary for Education, as our guest speaker at our Prize Giving Evening. We celebrated the success of pupils across the school. Following the presentation we were able to socialise in the company of pupils, parents, governors and members of the community while enjoying the magnificent canapes prepared and served by the Sixth Form Hospitality students and staff.



During the summer holidays Lucy Jackson went to Rio to watch past pupil Natalie Powell compete in the Olympic Judo competition. During her time in Rio she had the opportunity to meet Natalie and other members of the Team GB Judo squad. Lucy is a member of Irfon Judo Club and is the current Welsh Open Champion in her age group.   


Mountain Biking

Congratuations to Sam Ryland who as has competed in mountain bike racing at Welsh and national level. In August he was awarded 2nd place overall in the Welsh mountain bike series.



Good luck to Year 13 pupil Charlotte Nixon and her horse Spirit Merchant in the U18 British Eventing Qualifier on Saturday 17th September.
