This week has seen the end of the external exams, fieldtrips for the DT and Geography department, a positive monitoring visit from Estyn and a delightful afternoon tea with year 11 pupils. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our year 11 students for the excellent manner in which they have conducted themselves and to wish them all the very best for the future. We are looking forward to celebrating with them this evening at their prom.
Today we have been raising money for the Urdd Eisteddfod 2018 - Brycheiniog a Maesyfed (Brecnock and Radnorshire) which will be held in Llanelwedd. Pupils paid £1 to wear non-school uniform.
Year 10 Trip to Riversimple
On Thursday the 23rd of June, Year 10 Design and Technology students were given the privilege to attend the pre-launch of Riversimple’s revolutionary Rasa car concept. The Riversimple project aims to bring about a change in the way we power our transportation, looking to systematically, eliminate the environmental impact of personal transport, through the use of hydrogen fuel cells.
Riversimple gave the students a brief introduction into their future of vehicle manufacture, not only the base concept of using alternative fuel, but the use of rapid prototyping in the manufacture of pre-production cars. The crew from Riversimple also gave students the opportunity to discuss concept with the designers. Students were able to get hands on with the car, providing a great platform for students to ask questions.
Pupils were a great credit to the school, and acted in a positive, mature and inquisitive way. On behalf of both the students and staff who attended the event, we would like to say thank you once again to the Riversimple team.
Year 11 finished their exams on Tuesday after a stressful year of studying and a month of exams. They celebrated their time at Builth Wells High School with a Leaver’s Tea in the Bwyty on Thursday afternoon. Pupils got to reminisce over their year 7 photos, signed each other’s t-shirts, received their leaving hoodies and were given special awards. The Year 11 Prom will take place tonight in Caerberis at 6pm. Miss Jones would like to thank the current year 11 for their hard work throughout the year and wish them all the best with their results in the summer! Pob lwc yn y dyfodol blwyddyn 11!
On Monday we welcome a group of 12 students and 2 teachers from Fauquier County, Virginia, USA as part of our Year 12 Exchange programme. We hope they bring some nice weather with them.

Last Friday a group of Year 9 pupils who are participating in the Active Leaders Course, together with Jonathan Nash (5x60), ran a golf day for 160 primary school children at Builth Wells Golf Club. The pupils did exceptionally well and received feedback from one of the primary teachers:
"A belated thank you to you both for Friday's very enjoyable golf day.
As always, our children thoroughly enjoyed the range of activities on offer throughout the day. The high school students who were helping out, were a great help during the activities, too, and I was impressed how confidently they led their stations.
It is always a pleasure to attend an event that is professionally organised - thank you."
Sports Day is next Thursday 30th June. Wear your house colours to support your house.
