Permanent Headteacher Appointed

I am delighted to present this first newsletter for our revamped website. Effective communication must underpin our home-school partnership if we are to work together to raise standards.

Our Post Inspection Action Plan (PIAP) has been accepted by Estyn who have recognised that we are making good progress in addressing the recommendations. A team from Estyn will carry out a monitoring visit during June.

Beating Gender Stereotypes Conference

On Friday 29th April The Full Circle Education Group hosted the largest career event for girls in Wales at the Celtic Manor Hotel in Newport. It was the biggest inspirational event for girls in the country, helping young women aged 11-25 to dream big and shatter gender stereotypes. The trip was attended by 33 Builth Wells High School pupils from years 8 to 11 along with hundreds of other girls from across South Wales. Pupils had the opportunity to learn about non-traditional jobs and broaden their career horizons through presentations and hands-on activities.

The event included:

  • Inspiring presentations from women role models, including Lydia Lewis (United Nations, Oxford University) and Jessica Jones (Young Engineer of the Year 2012)
  • A role model networking session where pupils learnt about work experience opportunities and career pathways from companies representing STEM industries, sports, the creative industries and more.
  • Hands on activities from over 40 industries, from engineering to enterprise, science, construction, the emergency services and much more.

The event was thoroughly enjoyed by all pupils and they were a credit to the school!
